Our new nanny is doing pretty good. She keeps Weston busy at the public library and when it's warm, they're outside. Weston was in "school" for a few months during the summer where he encountered his first GI virus and strep throat - not fun. So, now I'm glad he's home again, and I hope it stays this way for a while. Selfishly, I really don't like to miss work to be home with a sick little boy, but this way he's not sick and I'm not missing work...best of both worlds.
What are some of Weston's favorite things?
I wish I could say that was easy, but here we go:
- He loves tools (toys or the real thing)
- Dirt movers, dozers, excavators, loaders...
- Books (we read probably half a dozen a day at least)
- The beach (he's been asking to go daily...wish we could)
- Singing songs
- Tacos, black beans and anything dipped in sour cream
- Technology...no surprise he loves the ipad and iphone :(
- The word: Ferdicament or Ferdiculous (we think it's a cross between ridiculous and predicament ...except with an "F", you should try it sometime, you'll laugh)
- All his shapes
- Colors
- Counting to 20, and backward from 5 (for blasting off)
- About half the letters in the alphabet, and he knows that "W" is for Weston
- More letters
- Writing and fine motor skills (the boy can hit a nail with a hammer though)
- The potty...
The most recent development is the sad, but true realization that my 3-year old can climb out of his crib. I don't know now he made it this long in life without doing it...fear of falling I guess. It's been nice because he's a great sleeper for the most part and will sleep 10 hours at night and a 2+ hour nap, but now he pulls all kinds of shenanigans going to sleep that culminate in "thump...guys? Hey guys...anybody home?" followed by running toddler feet and followed by an "I'm awake" announcement. Toddler rail is in the very near future.
Mostly, I just cherish the sweet moments of snuggling with my baby boy while I can still call him that. Before he gives me the "oh mom, do I have to hug you?" line and before he doesn't want me to read him bedtime stories any more. I cherish the occasional "I love you moms" even though they are very seldom, but I really love the "your my best friend" announcements. Next year we'll have a new little brother to share all these things with, and who knows...I'll probably be replaced as best friend by baby "Cucumber". I'm sad, but at the same time, I can't wait.
