A new year...

2013...tick...tick...tick, another new year is coming.  I am almost relieved I guess.  This time last year, I was scrambling to find a new job after finding out the job that I moved to Winchester for suddenly had disappeared.  I stayed home for almost 2 months and about went crazy, then started a new job that I absolutely love and is now in yet another rocky financial situation...healthcare - geesh!.  We finally were able to get pregnant with baby number 2 this summer, only to find out that 2 other Pediatricians in my group also are all due in April.  Exciting, but causing a crunch on everyone when this should certainly be an exciting time and not so stressful.  We made it to the beach in February and May, which were both great. My mom was even able to join us in Sanibel, our favorite vacation spot.  We made a trip to Michigan to see my dad and even my brother and his family had made it in, which was awesome.  We did Disney (see previous posts).  But, we didn't make it to Idaho to see my family there before I realized that it was just going to be too tough to fly late in my pregnancy with toddler in tow and our crunching call schedule.  So, I probably didn't get to do many of the things in 2013 that I wanted, but am certainly blessed by all that I had, a new job, a new pregnancy, and trips with my family to cherish forever.

I'm not very good at resolutions, and I never have been, so as I look back at 2013, I'm kind of glad I didn't make any "resolutions" last year because I don't think any of them would have stuck.  I am, however, a goal-oriented person.  I did somehow make it from the hills of North Idaho to the plateau of Tennessee to Appalachia where I finally became a doctor of all things, and a Pediatrician to boot.  So I guess having my mind focused on the bigger, grander goals is what's most important.  For 2014, I have a few goals in mind that I'd like to accomplish, not just for myself, but for my family and my community.

2014 Goals:
Have a healthy pregnancy and welcome a healthy baby boy (who is still nameless)
See each of the grandparents (who are really great-grandparents)
In Michigan, Idaho, and California
Make to the beach at least once
Re-institute date nights weekly (but certainly at least 2/month)
Yell less (even if that means time outs occur more)
Exercise at least 3 times/week
Eat more fruits/veggies (parents and Pediatricians agree on this)
(insert goal weight here___ I'd just like to be pre-pregnancy weight again)
Get a bike and actually use it (I think Weston would love this)
Keep my desk clean (that means no file pile, and I actually use the shredder)
Save more money than we did in 2013
Give more money away than ever before (actually, this is one of my favorites!)
Visit a friend who lives out of town least every other month
Have more quiet times in God's Word, even if it means waking up earlier
Plan a trip to Haiti ~even though 2014 may not be the year, I'm going back for sure!

I don't usually do selfies
but I just want a last 2013 smile
on record, glasses and all
