A long winter, a new day...the unposted post (April 15, 2014)

(I began the post 2 weeks ago...a lot has changed...)

Is it just me or has it been the longest winter ever? As I sit here and watch the snow fall on April 15th in Kentucky, I am saddened that just 2 days ago it was 80 degrees and the threat of a "hard freeze" prevented me from planting anything in my garden this past weekend. But, since a new day is coming, I am happy to announce that I (we, rather) have made it to 38 weeks gestation with little baby boy Blair, who we shall now call "Grant Isaiah Blair", instead of the former Jackson, cucumber variation that Weston had previously dubbed. This pregnancy, while being plagued with some excruciating sacral pain, has been actually very good compared to my last one. No nausea, GERD to a minimum thanks to Zantac (I couldn't really stand the thought of Tums, so I went straight for the real thing this time), and no swelling. Since I had such a difficult time with Weston at the end last time with pre-eclampsia and kidney stones/pyelonephritis, I am hopeful that those things will be only a memory of the past with little Grant's delivery.

We again encountered the same problem with nursery decorating that we did with Weston...we procrastinated a little too late to get all of our furniture before baby is born. We decided to order Grant's furniture from Young America because it's made in the USA and uses Greenguard...safe stains/finishes that are not supposed to be smelly or toxic for baby. Little did we know they were going to discontinue the baby line this spring, but at least we did get the crib. We're still waiting on the bookcase and dresser...and then one day I will finally get to decorate and arrange this baby's room.

Weston is still practicing being a big brother, he has become a pro at buckling "Curious George" into the infant carseat and has tucked him in repeatedly for a nap in the pack-and-play. He shows some sweetness to the belly occasionally stating, "I want my baby brother to come out now" (me too, little man, me too!). I know we'll go through a lot of adjusting, but hopefully we can empower this wild toddler to be a big helper in the days and weeks to come.

We have longed for summer so long, that we're determined to plan a vacation while I'm on maternity leave, so hopefully one of my next few posts will be of beautiful sunset beaches and sandy babies...or at least a sandy toddler and a shaded momma and baby. Until then, we patiently wait...
