Sanibel days are the best!

We have been going to Sanibel Island for vacation for 3 years now, several friends had recommended it and we just love it! It's a non-commercialized but totally tourist-friendly place that makes you feel like you're in another country instead of Florida.  The sunsets are amazing, the shells are abundant (although I thought less so this year than last), the people are friendly - perfect family place!

We typically stay at Blind Pass, which I was going to keep secret, but I'll share since it's so darn lovely. Our favorite places to eat are the Island Cow, and recently discovered Rosie's, which is kind of hidden from view, but makes an awesome French Dip sandwich and some kind of good Kentucky Cowboy Burger with homemade chips...these two places we visited twice each this year.  Typically we cooked dinners at our condo and ate lunch out.  This year scheduling was a little difficult with baby along for the ride.  I think I got in the pool two times all week and the ocean once, but I know that next time this little guy will love the water just as much as his big brother...who you can see enjoyed swimming, floating and jumping in the water.  He also learned to boogie board this year, which nearly gave me a heart attack to watch Rolland let him go and cruise down the beach holding on for dear life at the mercy of the waves...but seeing his smile makes me realize he needs those moments, and in those few seconds, he's all grown up and he doesn't need us to hold his hand every second any more.

Probably one of the most exciting things about this particular vacation? Weston decided he was going to potty train himself...to poop in the potty - for real!  I mean seriously folks, we have been trying to get this kid to sit on the potty for months, but once he learned to pee standing up, he refused to sit down to try to poop in the potty.  After several underware accidents on vacation (I'm sure he could feel our frustration), he decided not only to go pee by himself, but then he climbed up on the potty (no stool, no seat) and low and behold, he was actually trying to go by himself!  We of course got the play-by-play, "I'm tooting in the potty", and "I'm pooping in the potty"...which was kind of hilarious. Followed by "I did it" and "Are you SO proud of me, are you so excited?"...yes Weston, we are so proud.  Kind of funny how proud parents are of poop in general, but this is one of those moments where you cross your fingers and hope it's for real.  Since that day, he still hasn't had an accident...he did tell us as soon as we got home that he wanted to poop at the condo.  I'm not sure what allure that condo potty had, but hey, I'll take it!

We were so grateful that Rolland's mom was able to go on vacation with us this year...Mimi to the rescue!  This made for a couple kid-free walks on the beach, extra hands to hold crying baby or wrangle tired toddler, and certainly, Weston's best swimming pool buddy...those two are certainly made for the water!  These memories are just the best...until next time Sanibel, until next time!
